Ergonomics: Training
Get ergonomic training to prevent work-related muscular and skeletal strain, discomfort, and injury.
UC San Diego trainings offer everything from the basics of office/home ergonomics to being a Department Ergonomic Evaluator. In addition, campus-funded employees can apply for ergonomic resource funding from Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) to help purchase ergonomically-designed products.
Healthy Working Office Ergonomics Self-Evaluation and Training
Required for staff represented by Coalition of University Employees (CUE) who work more than 60% of their normal work schedule at a video display terminal. This is an eCourse.
Recommended for any employee who works at the computer for 4 or more hours per day and those who supervise them. Also intended for those who want more in-depth information on ergonomic principles in order to identify and perform basic interventions for workers at computer workstations.

Based on your answers in the tutorial, a Personal Ergonomic Recommendation Report will be generated for you at the end of the course. It is your ergonomic evaluation report. Implement the recommendations including workplace adjustments, additional equipment, and behavioral changes.

Healthy Working at Home Self-Evaluation and Training
Recommended for staff working from home. This eCourse focuses on the following topics:
- Understand key ergonomic principles, including how to achieve neutral posture while working at home
- Identify the ergonomic challenges unique to a home office
- Modify your home workstation to maximize your comfort and safety
- Recognize safety hazards in the home office
- Integrate personal health and wellbeing strategies into your daily habits
Based on your Risk Assessment in the tutorial, a Personal Action Plan will be generated for you at the end of the course. It is your ergonomic evaluation report. Implement the recommendations including adjustments, additional equipment (after getting approval from your supervisor), and behavioral changes.

Laboratory Ergonomics
Recommended for those working in research laboratories and performing prolonged tasks such as pipetting, microscopy, dissection, and other repetitive procedures. You will learn how to set up functional workstations, use proper body mechanics, and how to prevent cumulative trauma disorders. This is instructor-led training specific

Custom Group Training
Have an ergonomic specialist present group training in your workplace, focusing on the tasks and equipment your group uses. Group sessions are often the best use of everyone's training time, and often the most successful way supervisors and safety coordinators can get employees to a training seminar.

Become a Department Ergonomic Evaluator
Become a Department Ergonomic Evaluator capable of performing computer workstation evaluations for your work unit. This is instructor-led training.
Recommended for those who want more in-depth information on ergonomic principles in order to identify and perform basic interventions for workers at computer workstations. Also intended for supervisors, departmental buyers, departmental safety coordinators (DSC's), computer resource specialists, and others who would be interested in becoming designated ergonomic assessors within their work units.
