Environmental Compliance Training

Find required and recommended environmental compliance training for UC San Diego employees.

Responsibilities

Strict regulations govern activities, materials, and equipment that may potentially impact the environment. Supervisors of facilities or operations subject to environmental compliance regulations must make sure their employees receive appropriate training.

Required

Annual Shop & Studio Environmental Compliance & Hazards Training

Required annually* for UCSD non-laboratory personnel in shops and studios who work with hazardous materials. Topics include hazardous materials handling, waste disposal, pollution prevention, environmental compliance, and emergency response. This is an eCourse.

Prerequisite: This course is required annually for employees who work with hazardous materials and have already completed the instructor-led classes for Injury and Illness Prevention Program and Environmental Compliance/Pollution Prevention through UC Learning Center.

How to get training:

* Expiration dates: County regulations require training annually - not 12 months from date of completion. Your annual training can be completed anytime this year, regardless of last years expiration date.

Required for employees who may encounter asbestos while performing their job duties.

Required for UCSD project managers before being assigned to projects where asbestos may be encountered.

Environmental Compliance/Pollution Prevention

Required for custodial services within UCSD. This class provides an overview of a variety of federal, state, and local environmental regulations that govern facilities maintenance job activities at UCSD. Topics include procedures and practices necessary to comply with these regulations and to reduce or prevent the discharge of pollutants to the air, soil, and/or waters of the state. This is instructor-led training.

Required for UCSD project managers and trades employees before being assigned projects where lead-based paint may be encountered.

Recommended

Environmental Stewardship

Recommended for employees and operations who wish to improve environmental stewardship and sustainability in UCSD facility planning and operations, and help make sustainability part of ongoing UCSD education, research, operations, and outreach programs. This is instructor-led training.
