Responsibilities
Principal investigators (PI) and supervisors must identify job-specific hazards and make sure personnel attend required and recommended safety training appropriate for the work performed.
Fire Extinguisher Training
Recommended for all employees. Highly recommended for employees working with hazardous materials or processes associated with a high risk of fire such as Facilities Management maintenance personnel and custodians, Housing-Dining-Hospitality maintenance, science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) technical shop personnel, and Telecommunications technicians.
How to get training:
- Contact the EH&S Safety Training Manager to schedule hands-on training.
- Complete the Fire Safety and Prevention eCourse on the UC Learning Center.

Fire Extinguisher, Fire Watch, and Hot Work Training
Recommended for employees working with hazardous materials or processes associated with a high risk of fire such as Facilities Management maintenance personnel and custodians, Housing-Dining-Hospitality maintenance, science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) technical shop personnel, and Telecommunications technicians. This is instructor-led training.

Group training
Fire extinguisher training can be presented for work groups upon request. Group sessions are often the best use of everyone's training time, and a successful way for supervisors and safety coordinators to ensure employees receive training.
