Safety Training for Arts, Crafts, and Theater Employees

Find required and recommended safety training for arts and crafts workers at UC San Diego.

Responsibilities

Individual supervisors must identify job-specific hazards and make sure their employees attend required and recommended safety training for the type of work they perform.


Required

Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)

Required for all employees receiving compensation from UC San Diego.

IIPP training is recommended for anyone working in a high hazard environment, regardless of payroll status.

Air Purifying Respirator

Required for employees who use an air-purifying respirator.

Annual Shop & Studio Environmental Compliance & Hazards Training

Required annually* for employees who work with hazardous materials. This is an eCourse.

How to get training:

* Expiration dates: San Diego County regulations require training annually - not 12 months from date of completion. Your annual training can be completed anytime this year, regardless of last year's expiration date.

Hearing Conservation

Required for employees who, as part of their job, are exposed to noise levels at or above 85 decibels over an eight-hour workday. This is instructor-led training.

Required for employees who move or lift equipment or heavy loads. This is an eCourse.

Recommended

Dealing with Emergencies

Recommended for all employees who wish to learn about basic preparedness procedures and resources, or their department's role in the Emergency Operations Plan. This is instructor-led training.

UC San Diego Driver Responsibilities

Recommended for anyone who operates a university vehicle or electric cart, utilizes a personal vehicle or rents a vehicle for university business. This is instructor-led training.

Ergonomics for Trades Employees

Recommended for employees who perform repetitive motions, stand for prolonged periods of time, operate hand tools, or frequently bend, lean, and lift. This is instructor-led training specific to the work performed.
