Confined Space Training

Learn about confined space training for UC San Diego employees who may encounter a confined space in the course of their work.

Confined space training

Required for supervisors overseeing confined space work (as defined by Cal/OSHA) and employees who enter or provide support to co-workers in confined spaces. UC San Diego employees must:

  • Attend training prior to assigning or performing confined space work
  • Receive annual refresher training

How to get training:

Training is available as needed. Instruction time is 1 hour.

Topics include:

  • Regulating agencies and current regulations
  • Identified confined spaces at UC San Diego
  • Hazardous atmospheric conditions
  • Pre-entry procedures and equipment operation
  • How to use atmospheric monitoring instruments
  • Field calibration of monitoring instruments
  • Entry logs and permits
  • Emergency and rescue procedures
  • Responsibilities of supervisors, employees, and Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S)
