Published Media not showing up in “Media Gallery”

What to do if your published media isn't showing up in the Media Gallery.

Problem: You've published a video to your course, but it's not showing up in your course’s Media Gallery. Kaltura indicates that it's been published to the course's Media Gallery, but when you visit the Media Gallery, the video isn't there.

This occasionally occurs possibly because of a metadata glitch on Kaltura's back end.

Possible Solutions

  1. Change the video's metadata.
  2. Un-publish and re-publish the video.

Solution 1: Change the Video’s Metadata

Sometimes changing just one thing about the entry's metadata can fix the publication glitch.

  1. Within Canvas, click "My Media" in the left navigation.
  2. Locate the entry that is not showing up in the Media Gallery and click the pencil icon on that entry's row.
  3. With the "Details" tab selected below the player (which should be selected by default), add a space to the video's name.
  4. Click "Save."
  5. Delete the extra space from the title.
  6. Click "Save."
  7. Check to see if the video is now visible in the course's Media Gallery.

If this doesn't work, try the next solution.

Solution 2: Un-Publish and Re-Publish the Video

If changing the entry's metadata doesn’t work, try to manually remove the video from the course's Media Gallery and re-add it.

  1. Within Canvas, click "My Media" in the left navigation.
  2. Locate the entry that is not showing up in the Media Gallery and click the pencil icon on that entry's row.
  3. Click the "Publish" tab beneath the player.
  4. Un-publish and re-publish the video.
    1. If the video is only published to one course:
      1. Click the "Private" radio button and then click "Save."
      2. Click the "Published" radio button, check the box for the appropriate course, and click "Save."
    2. If the video is published to multiple courses:
      1. Uncheck the box for the course where it's not showing up and click "Save."
      2. Check the box for the course again and click "Save."
  5. Check to see if the video is now visible in the course's Media Gallery.
