Faculty, Staff, and Student Employees may be required to complete various compliance and required training based on their role with the University. Based on your requirements, automated assignment emails and reminders will be sent from the UC Learning Center with information about the required course and the due date for completing the training.
Staff Learning and Development has compiled the following course grid below to help you easily determine your required courses, due dates and certification periods, as well as the estimated course duration.

UC Abusive Conduct in the Workplace
As part of University of California’s (UC) ongoing commitment to creating a safe and healthy working environment, UC has launched a system-wide required training on Abusive Conduct in the Workplace. The training is in support of President Drake’s policy on Abusive Conduct, effective January 2023.
UC San Diego employees are required to complete the UC Abusive Conduct in the Workplace course through the UC Learning Center. This training covers your rights and responsibilities with respect to the Abusive Conduct in the Workplace policy and should take approximately 20 minutes to complete. If you are unable to complete the training in one session, you can save your place and complete it at a later time.

Why do I have to take this training?
As part of University of California’s (UC) ongoing commitment to creating a safe and healthy working environment, and in support of the five anchors of UC San Diego’s People Proposition, UC has launched a required system-wide training on Abusive Conduct in the Workplace in alignment with President Michael Drake’s policy effective January of 2023.
We hope that no one on campus ever experiences any form of abusive conduct, but we want to ensure that everyone has an understanding of the policy and is aware of resources available to them should the need arise.
This brief but informative training will help us ensure that everyone has reviewed and understood the information.
Who does this policy apply to?
This policy on Abusive Conduct (“policy”) applies to all University employees, unpaid interns, and third parties. The policy applies at all University campuses, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Medical Centers, the Office of the President, and Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Who needs to take this training?
This training is applicable to all UC employees, including health and campus staff, academics and student employees, and therefore the training is required for all these groups.
I have a question about the training. Where can I learn more?
Campus Staff can direct questions to hr@ucsd.edu.
Health Sciences and Health System staff and MSP Physicians can submit a request on the Health Human Resources website, or call 619-543-3200, and select option 5.
Academics can visit the Academic Personnel website or email academicemplrelations@ucsd.edu for more information about the training or related policies, procedures, and resources for promoting appropriate professional behavior and addressing inappropriate behavior by academics.
I’m not sure if what I’m experiencing is considered abusive conduct. What should I do?
Our general guidance is that you review the policy, which includes examples that may be helpful for you if you believe you are experiencing abusive conduct. Here’s a link to the policy.

To report abusive conduct or file a complaint, you can call the UC Whistleblower Hotline at (800) 403-4744, or visit the UC San Diego Abusive Conduct in the Workplace Submission page.
I completed the training and submitted a claim for what I believe is abusive conduct. What happens next?
Every complaint filed is evaluated individually by the relevant department for your appointment type to determine whether it potentially meets the criteria for abusive conduct under the policy.
If you believe you have experienced abusive conduct at UC San Diego, we encourage you to file so your specific circumstances can be reviewed.
We recognize that people often have many questions about their situation, and we appreciate your patience and understanding that the thorough review of each submission takes time.

UC Cyber Security Awareness Fundamentals
As part of the University's efforts to address the increasing threats to the security of information systems and data, you have been assigned this security awareness training program, required of faculty and staff at all UC locations.
Each member of the University community has a responsibility to safeguard the information assets entrusted to us. This training program will better prepare all of us to fulfill this responsibility and strengthen our defenses against future attacks.
Complete this course within 42 days of assignment and every year thereafter.
This course will take approximately 35 minutes to complete. You may take the course in more than one sitting. A "bookmark" function will remember the modules you have already completed.

UC Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Prevention for Non-Supervisors
This training is for employees who are not required to complete California’s AB1825-mandated training for supervisory employees. The training meets the legal requirements of SB1343. It provides information on preventing and responding to sexual violence and sexual harassment and what each of us can do to make our UC culture safer for all. It will take a minimum of 1 hour to complete. This course includes a section specific to requirements under Title IX and the Clery Act.

UC Workplace Violence Prevention
As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to creating a safe and healthy working environment, UC employees are required to complete training on preventing workplace violence. This training is in support of the Workplace Violence Prevention Program and in accordance with the requirements of California Labor Code section 6401.9. This requirement is applicable to all UC San Diego employees, including staff, academics, and student employees.
The training is designed to help members of the UC community understand and report workplace violence, and to be able to recognize and respond to escalating behavior.
Complete this course within 60 days of assignment and every year thereafter
The UC Workplace Violence Prevention training is available through the UC Learning Center and takes approximately 25 minutes to complete. You may take the course in more than one sitting. A "bookmark" function will remember the modules you have already completed. The training is available in English and Spanish and is accessible to screen readers.

Who needs to take this training?
This requirement is applicable to all UC San Diego employees, including staff, academics, and student employees. The requirement excludes sworn law enforcement officers and UC San Diego Health System employees, who are assigned enhanced Workplace Violence training for their specific roles.

Where do I report incidents of Workplace Violence?
In a situation with risk of imminent violence, immediately call 9-1-1
Report incidents of workplace violence through the Incident Reporting Portal as soon as it is safe to do so.
Even if law enforcement was not contacted to respond to an incident, you may still file a police report by contacting UC San Diego Police Department non-emergency phone number at (858) 534-HELP (4357).
Incidents for which law enforcement was contacted should still be reported to the Incident Reporting Portal.

General Compliance Briefing: UC Ethical Values and Conduct
The University of California requires completion of the General Compliance Briefing: UC Ethical Values and Conduct training for all UC employees who are not extramurally funded researchers. This briefing is designed to raise continued awareness of the University of California Statement of Ethical Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct and to convey University employment obligations with respect to ethical and compliant behavior. The purpose is not to teach University policy or ethics but to familiarize UC employees with important ethics and compliance information, issues, and resources. In addition, this briefing will provide information about reporting instances of non-compliance. The training is available through the UC Learning Center (login required). The course is available in English and Spanish.

UC Ethics and Compliance Briefing for Researchers
Those in research positions and who received more than $1 in extramural funds in the prior year will be required to complete the UC Ethics and Compliance Briefing for Researchers instead of the General Compliance: UC Ethical Values and Conduct training.

Environmental Health & Safety
All UC employees are required by California law to complete basic safety training. The program's purpose is to help employees understand and avoid on-the-job risks.
New employees should complete the requirement within 30 days of hire.
Complete Safety Orientation - Injury and Illness Prevention eCourse on the UC Learning Center.
Those working in laboratories can fulfill this requirement by taking the required Laboratory Safety training.

FERPA - Confidentiality of Student Records and Privacy Rights
In an effort to protect the privacy of and access to student records in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and University of California policies, as well as security concerns for keeping student records safe from disclosure, the Office of the Registrar has developed an online Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) training course. This important training is required for all faculty and staff before new or continued electronic access is granted to all forms of student records, including ISIS, TritonEd, Blink Instruction tools, and the Data Warehouse.
Due date varies based on departmental assignment. Refer to the due date on your assignment notification. After the initial completion, this course is required to be completed every 3 years.
