Managing Sponsored Project Funds: FDP
If you manage sponsored project funds, find out what you need to know about awards from agencies that participate in the Federal Demonstration Project.
FDP initiative
UCSD participates in a grants management initiative called the Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP).
FDP aims to reduce the burden of administering research awards and to increase research productivity. The following federal agencies participate:
- Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR)
- Army Medical Research & Material Command (AMRMC)
- Army Research Office (ARO)
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
- National Institutes of Health (NIH)
- National Science Foundation (NSF)
- Office of Naval Research (ONR)
- U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)
Common terms and conditions
If you are managing an FDP award, refer to the information below for common terms and conditions.
Financial reports
Under FDP, financial reports are generally required within 90 days of the award termination date. The National Science Foundation (NSF) does not require a financial report.
Unobligated balances
Under FDP, most agencies do not require carry-overs to be approved. However, award documents may indicate if unobligated balances are restricted or require agency approval to carry over. Unrestricted balances at the end of a budget year will be carried forward to the following budget year, except for the final budgeted year of the award. Unexpended funds remaining at the award termination date are relinquished to the agency.
