How to Publicize on Campus

Contact these campus resources for opportunities to market and promote your events.

Flyers, brochures, posters, signs and banners

Read campuswide posting guidelines before posting your materials.

  • Creative Services and Publications: Produces printed, electronic, and “new media” communication pieces for UC San Diego clients. Contact them to find out how they can help your department.
  • PrintConnection: Order flyers, brochures, and posters—including enlarged posters. Questions? Contact Imprints.
    • Flyers and posters can be taped to unpainted concrete surfaces (using painter’s tape only) or attached to the posting boards in the Price Center food court or theatre lobby. 
  • Sign fabrication services: Learn more about on-campus services to produce signs and banners.

  • This Week@UC San Diego: This e-newsletter is sent to all faculty, staff and students at UC San Diego (60,000+) and typically publishes on Thursdays. Send story ideas, requests for coverage and completed news releases to Janet Howard, (858) 822-2986. Include photos if possible.
  • The UC San Diego Guardian: Publishes Mondays and Thursdays, except for holidays.
    • Calendar (runs on Mondays): E-mail a 30-50 word description of your UC San Diego campus event (be sure to include time, place, cost, etc.). Check the Guardian website to confirm deadlines.
    • Advertisements: Guardian advertising options, costs, and contacts.

Press releases

Appropriate press releases may be featured on the UC San Diego News site and are sometimes forwarded to outside media outlets. You can also submit story ideas to University Communications at (858) 534-3120.

Electronic mailing lists/e-mail newsletters, electronic flyers

  • UC San Diego campus notices via electronic mailing list: Use these to share information related to UC policy, salary, benefits and other employment-related matters; matters related to campus accounting, purchasing, and administrative systems procedures, safety and security matters; and any administrative notices that legally require the campus community to be official notified.
    • All notices require approval by the cognizant Vice Chancellor or the Chancellor. First, get approval from your director, then contact the assistant to the VC-ER for approval.
    • Notices are distributed by means of an electronic mailing list.

  • Student Events Insider: An online calendar of events and opportunities especially for students, published each Thursday during the academic year and e-mailed to all registered students and other subscribers.
  • UC San Diego electronic flyers: Use these for the majority of announcements regarding campus events, activities, and information of a general nature, e.g., music presentations, blood drives, etc. Flyers do not require a signator.

Physical locations

Read campuswide posting guidelines.
  • Approved locations: Post flyers, banners, posters, etc. to these approved locations with permission from specified people. You must hang and remove banners yourself. In your request, be sure to include when you will be posting the banner and for how long.
    • Bookstore: To partner with the UC San Diego Bookstore at events (i.e., getting a table) or to order items for an event, contact Toni Channels, (858) 534-7106.
    • Price Center : Multiple physical and digital opportunities.
    • Residential facilities: Each college has its own policy and procedure for posting notices.
  • University Centers Sync: Sync is a list of events presented by and in collaboration with University Centers. Anyone interested in partnering with University Centers for hosting an event at the Price Center or Student Center can contact ucenmarketing@ucsd.edu
  • Campus Shuttles: For advertising on or in campus shuttles, contact Emily Self at Triton Print.
