General Campus Appointment to an Administrative Endowed Chair

Learn how a candidate is appointed to an administrative chair on the general campus.
All chairholders appointed January 1, 2015 and thereafter, are covered by the UC San Diego Guidelines for New Endowed Chairs (PDF)
1. Academic Personnel Services (APS)
- Prepares the Chancellor's letter appointing the candidate to the chair
- Sends the letter to the candidate, with copies to:
- EVCAA
- Dean
- Department Chair
- Donor Stewardship Office
2. Executive Vice Chancellor – Academic Affairs (EVCAA)
- Prepares and sends a second letter to the candidate with the following information within a few days of the appointment letter:
- Endowment details, including income
- Allowable expenditures
- Reporting requirements
- Chair term (should coincide with term of the Administrative appointment)
3. APS
- Sends an e-mail communicating the candidate's response to:
- EVCAA
- Dean
- Department chair (if applicable)
