Surplus Sales

Surplus Sales serves as an outlet to dispose of used, excess UCSD property. Read about buying from or sending items to Surplus.

Location

The UC San Diego Surplus Sales facility is located at 7835 Trade St, Suite 100, at the northeast corner of the building.

Shoppers are encouraged to view items at the Surplus Sales facility:

  • The Surplus Sales Warehouse is open by appointment ONLY Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 am - 3:30 pm. 

How Departments Buy From Surplus Sales

1. See the Surplus Sales website for available items.

  • Visit the UC San Diego Surplus Sales website to view available items:
    • Browse by category
    • New items added on a regular basis
  • Important Information:
    • Departments can purchase from the Surplus store using department funds.
    • Federal funds may not be used to purchase Surplus items.
    • The bid process does not apply to department buyers.
    • Pricing will be set at the current bid price or the reserve amount, whichever is higher.

2. Make an appointment to visit the Surplus Sales facility and view the Surplus items you wish to purchase. 

  • You're welcome to test any item before purchase and view any item listed on our website in person at the Surplus Sales facility.
  • The Surplus Sales Warehouse is open by appointment ONLY Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 am - 3:30 pm. 
  • To schedule an appointment please email surplus@ucsd.edu or call the office at (858)534-2844. 
  • The Surplus Sales facility is located at 7835 Trade St., Suite 100. 

Note: All surplus items are used, not new, and sold "as is, where is" with no warranty. All sales are final. Departments are encouraged to physically view and inspect items before purchasing.

3. Purchase your items with department's funds.

  • To order items, click on the “Internal Customer” button, complete the Internal Transfer Request and a Surplus representative will contact you regarding your order.
  • Print out a copy of the request for your records.

4. Retrieve the items you purchase.

  • Arrange to pick up your items at the Surplus Sales facility:
    • Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
    • Schedule an appointment through the UC San Diego Services & Support portal.
  • Delivery is available at an additional cost. The charge is based on:
    • Size of each item
    • Number of items
    • Delivery location

Note: All items must be removed within 7 days of purchase.

How the Public Buys from Surplus Sales

The UC San Diego Surplus Store serves as an outlet to re-utilize, liquidate, recycle, and dispose of excess and decommissioned university property.

Sales Restrictions - UC San Diego employees may purchase items from Surplus Sales for personal use with some exceptions:

  • Employees or near relatives of those employees are barred from purchasing items they requested to be sent to Surplus.
  • Employees that report to or near relatives of the Equipment Admin. and Surplus Admin. may not purchase any items.

1.Visit the UC San Diego Surplus Sales website to view available items:

  • Divided by category
  • New items added on a regular basis
Public sales are conducted in several ways:
  • Out Right Sale: Customers can visit, inspect and purchase the Surplus items immediately.
  • Monthly Bid: These items are listed on the website with a closing time of 2 PM PT on the last Wednesday of each month.
  • Third-Party Bid: These items are listed on third-party websites for additional exposure. Bidders would need to visit the third party site to submit a bid on these items. Closing dates and times on these items will be listed on each item.

Bidders are encouraged to physically view and inspect the equipment prior to the bid closing, if possible. All successful bidders will be notified via email.

Note: You can't purchase Surplus Sales items directly from the Surplus Sales website.

2. Visit the Surplus Sales facility

  • You're welcome to test any item before purchase and view any item listed on our website in person at the Surplus Sales facility:
    • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM or
    • Schedule an appointment through the UC San Diego Services & Support portal or contact UC San Diego Surplus Sales at (858) 534-2844.

3. For Outright Sale Purchases:

  • Accepted forms of payment:
    • Cash, Money Order
    • Credit/Debit Card
    • Cashier's Check, Personal Check, Traveler's Check

California sales tax will be applied to public sales unless the reseller’s permit documentation is provided.

  • Make arrangements to remove the item(s) you purchase at the time of payment.

4. For Bid Purchases:

Register on the Surplus Sales website with your basic contact information.

  • Once you have an account, you are able to participate in our monthly online auctions.

Bids must be received by the last Wednesday of the month by 2 PM PST.

  • You will receive a confirmation email to notify you of any successful bids.
  • Accepted forms of payment:
    • Cash, Money Order
    • Credit/Debit Card
    • Cashier's Check, Personal Check, Traveler's Check

California sales tax will be applied to public sales unless the reseller’s permit documentation is provided.

  • You must remove your bid items within seven days of notification:
    • Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

How to Send Material and Equipment to Surplus Sales
