Lori Beth McFaddin, known for her sunny smile and generous nature, died June 15, 2005, of liver cancer. She was 48.

Lori was born in Long Beach, Calif., in 1957 and moved with her family to Redlands in 1960. She graduated from Redlands High School in 1975 and from CSU San Bernardino in 1980 with a B.A. in economics and an emphasis in business administration.

Lori moved to San Diego in 1980 and worked for Scripps Hospital before joining UCSD in 1981. In 1983 she married Jeffrey McFaddin, with whom she shared her fondness for home improvement and traveling with their dogs.

She also enjoyed entertaining, to the benefit of the Department of Communication, where she was financial coordinator. "Her chicken salad and baked goodies were renowned," said colleague Liz Floyd, who noted that Lori attracted people from outside the department to attend her Tupperware luncheons.

"She could fill our seminar room and would provide all the food for lunch. She had such a sunny presence, and I think that is what we all miss."
