The UC San Diego Export Control Workgroup (Workgroup) is advisory to the Export Control Office (ECO) and is responsible to provide guidance and recommendations for processes that will then be implemented by all appropriate offices to streamline the export control operations in a manner that supports the University research efforts while ensuring appropriate regulatory and institutional compliance.
Mission Statement
The mission of the UC San Diego ECO is to identify and manage export risks, obtain export licenses in support of the University research activities and ensure institutional compliance with the applicable laws, regulations and University policies. The ECO accomplishes this mission through:
- Early identification of export problem/risk areas
- Ensure institutional export compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Streamline UCSD’s systems with regard to export control reviews
- Provide export licensing support, training and education to investigators and their staff
- Promote a culture of compliance that encourages individuals to communicate concerns
- Prevent, detect and mitigate potential export control civil and criminal liabilities to the institution
The Workgroup provides guidance and recommendations to the ECO to facilitate compliance with its mission, assist the ECO with the implementation of new or revised processes, advocating for technology and business process investments that will improve the export control compliance, and facilitate communications with affected areas.
