Who We Are
The Portfolio Optimization & Finance Support division unites financial reporting, finance training, systems strategy and optimization, and client engagement. We provide the campus and BFS with trusted financial insights, dynamic learning opportunities, streamlined processes, and responsive support. Our mission is to strengthen financial decision-making and operational excellence by ensuring data integrity, enhancing system usability, empowering financial knowledge, and fostering strong client partnerships. Through collaboration and innovation, we deliver the resources and guidance needed to help our community navigate complexity, adapt to change, and achieve long-term success.
What We Do
The Portfolio Optimization & Finance Support division strengthens financial operations at UC San Diego by uniting four complementary areas: financial reporting, finance training, systems optimization, and client engagement. Together, we deliver insights, resources, and solutions that empower informed decision-making, streamline processes, and enhance the financial experience across campus and BFS.
Our team members provide the following services:
- Financial Reporting – Develops and maintains essential financial reports for budgeting, payroll accounting, recharges, faculty research, and more. The team ensures data integrity, troubleshooting support, and tailored reporting solutions for central offices, departments, and leadership.
- Finance Training – Designs and delivers training programs to build financial knowledge and confidence across the campus. The team conducts needs assessments, develops instructional materials, and provides accessible resources to strengthen understanding of financial systems, policies, and procedures.
- Systems Strategy & Optimization – Improves organizational efficiency by refining financial business processes, guiding Oracle Project Portfolio Management (PPM) and Accounts Receivable (AR) usage, and supporting data integrity and integrations. The team partners with BFS and campus stakeholders to align systems with evolving needs and drive continuous improvement.
- Finance Engagement & Support – Builds strong client partnerships through proactive engagement, communications, and change management. The team provides a structured support framework that ensures responsive, consistent service and helps the campus community adapt to financial processes and system changes.
