Development Guidelines: 3 - Prototype Phase

Learn about the third phase, Prototype, of a systems development methodology.

3.0 Prototype phase

Depending on the technical issues, you may decide to prototype some of the candidate technologies or approaches investigated in the analysis phase. The prototype can continue to evolve throughout the project life-cycle.

Prototyping is appropriate for systems when:

  • The system is small to medium in size.
  • End users will interact directly with the system, such as an online system.
  • A prototype can be developed quickly and the time between iterations is short.
