Resource Commitment Allocation Module (RCAM)

The Resource Commitment Allocation Module (RCAM) is a module within UCSDPLAN that allows users to record and report on Resource Commitments held by their Financial Unit(s), and facilitates manual transfer of those committed resources on the General Ledger. This page consolidate resources around access, training, support and reporting.

Getting Access

Please refer to  KB0035836: How to Request Access to the Resource Commitment Allocation Module (RCAM) for complete instructions. Access to RCAM is distinct from general access to UCSDPLAN, though users must have access to UCSDPLAN before they can be provisioned access in RCAM. If UCSDPLAN access is needed, please refer to KB0035018 for instructions on obtaining UCSDPLAN access. Please note that RCAM transactor access is currently restricted to users with B-level Financial Unit access and above.

New RCAM Report Viewers and Transactors must also complete the appropriate pre-access e-course for their role in UCLC prior to requesting access to RCAM.

Training and Support

In addition to the pre-access courses, there is also an in-depth course for transactors in the UC Learning Center:

Other available training and support channels include:

For technical issues, please submit a ticket via the Services and Support ticket portal: Select Budget & Planning > Oracle Planning & Budgeting (EPBCS) > Resource Commitment Allocation Module (RCAM)

Training for Report Viewers

In addition to the resources listed above, a series of short microlearning videos have been created to support RCAM report viewers. These videos, as well as other supporting documentation, can be found in the tabs below.

RCAM Report Basics

The concept of Amount Types is important when viewing the Record Lookup Dashboard, or the results tab of the various reports. As a reminder, here is a brief overview of the three Amount Types:

  • Total Amount: Projected year-end total including adjustments (reflects anticipated General Ledger transfers)
  • Beginning Balance: Starting annual amount before adjustments (reflects anticipated Recurring Adjustments for Budget Adjustment Module)
  • Approved Budget: Annual approved budget (uses Beginning Balance if not entered)

Here is some additional general guidance for interacting with RCAM report data:

Access and Availability

  • Available through Business Analytics Hub under RCAM Dashboard (requires access via KB0035836)
  • Data availability mirrors your UCSDPLAN/RCAM access permissions
  • Only displays records within your approved Financial Unit hierarchy
  • Shows current values processed by prior business day (not real-time)

Search Capabilities

  • Search by CTID, Budget Type, Commitment Status, and Source/Destination Chartstrings
  • Accepts partial values and is case-insensitive for most search fields
  • Multiple ID search allows space-separated CTIDs
  • Single ID search uses 8-digit CTID format (e.g., "CT008432")
  • Budget types: One-Time, One-Time-MultiYr, Recurring
  • Status options: Active, Completed, Hold, Inactive

Report Structure

  • Two tabs:
    • Report Prompts Tab for filtering with default "(All)" settings
    • Results Tab where filtered data is displayed
  • Changes in Report Prompts are automatically applied to results

Export Functionality

  • For reports that are best viewed in Excel, download data as CSV using "Crosstab" format
  • Must verify filters are applied before downloading
  • Downloaded files include both visible and tooltip fields
