Triton Print & Digital Media offers several options that reduce waste and support sustainability.
Triton Print & Digital Media is committed to preserving the planet. In support of UC San Diego sustainability initiatives, we continually find new ways to reduce waste and encourage recycling.
Paper
- Business cards are printed on FSC and Green-e certified card stock that is carbon neutral, elemental chlorine and lignin free and is made using wind power.
- More than 87% of our paper is 30% or higher Post-consumer Waste (PCW.)
- 82.3% of our 8.5 x 11 paper is 30% or higher postconsumer waste (PCW).
- We use papers certified by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), and other organizations.
- Our copier program supplies 100% PCW recycled letter-sized paper and 30% PCW recycled legal-sized paper.
- We encourage use of 100% PCW papers when available.

Digital color printing
- Dry inks in closed containers are non-toxic with a transfer efficiency rate near 100%.
- Alcohols, chlorinated solvents, acids or flammable materials are not used or generated.
- 80% of waste generated can be returned, reused or recycled.
- Compared to a typical offset press, digital printing creates 80% less noise.
- 97% of the components are recyclable or remanufacturable.
- Storing projects for printing on demand reduces paper use.
- Emissions such as ozone, dust, and volatile organic compounds are strictly controlled.
Printer and copier toner
- If caps are missing, tape the opening of empty bottles shut.
- Empty Minolta toner bottles with a ‘chasing arrows’ logo and the number 2 on the bottom belong in blue single-stream recycling bins.
- To recycle empty Xerox toner bottles or cartridges, call the Imprints help desk at (858) 534-2377 with your 4-digit machine number. Based on your machine model, an Imprints representative will let you know how to recycle the empty toner bottle or cartridge correctly.
- To recycle full Xerox toner waste containers for all models, close the container securely and tape the opening shut before placing bottle in blue single-stream recycling bins.
- Recycle empty HP toner cartridges through STORE.
Print on demand
- Keep waste out of landfills by printing only as many copies as you need, when you need them.
- Print only the sections, pages or chapters you need, instead of printing a whole book.
- Lower overall costs eliminates the need to print larger quantities to get the per unit price down.
- Change, correct or update text for future printings without making unsold inventory obsolete.
Paperless ordering and print management
- We use paperless ordering, invoicing and job management applications.
- 95% of our orders are received electronically. Our goal is to reach 100% by 2020.
- PrintConnection online portal allows paperless ordering from your home or office 24/7, eliminating unnecessary trips.
- We use electronic online (paperless) applications for job tracking, job management, shipping, reporting and invoicing.
