Digital Publishing Service

Triton Print & Digital Media now offers a robust digital publishing solution with digital editions (browser-based viewing) and apps for all mobile devices using HTML5 technology to deliver an excellent reader experience.

You provide the PDF print file(s) and we do the rest. See how it works.

Benefits

  • Digital editions — not online PDFs — allow readers to view your publications online with embed website links, videos, maps and rich media. View the digital edition of Triton Magazine.
  • A single process creates:
    • A downloadable mobile app version for Apple, Google and Amazon online stores. You can add RSS feeds to your app to keep content current. Responsive design formats text to devices regardless of its size or platform.
    • Identical content to produce print and digital versions of your publications.
  • Analytics track and analyze readers’ activity so you can understand how they interact with your content and identify  partnership and advertiser opportunities. Triton Print & Digital Media provides reports as part of your annual analytics subscription.

PDF File Specifications for Digital Publishing

All PDF files submitted for digital publishing should meet these specifications.

  • Fonts:
    • All fonts must be embedded, including Base 14 fonts (some output settings exclude these by default).
    • Embedded subsets are acceptable.
    • Composite and Identity-H fonts should not be used because they will not render properly.
  • Text:
    • Editorial text must be searchable, not outlines or rendered as an image (see details below).
    • Ad text should be searchable, if possible. We will accept ads supplied as images, but cannot generate searchable output from ads set as images.
  • Crop marks: Pages may include crop marks. We will crop pages to crop marks, if they are present.
  • Image resolution:
    • 300 dpi is preferred; 200 dpi is the minimum acceptable resolution unless the customer specifically accepts the risk of low-quality output.
    • There is no maximum resolution; however, we will down sample images higher than 300 dpi during the conversion process. Images with resolution above 300 dpi will not improve digital output quality.

Exporting PDF Files

When exporting files from InDesign, select Export/PDF for Print. Do not export files as Interactive because they will not publish properly.

  • Each PDF page should include one print page. Do not output page spreads on single PDF pages.
  • Files may be submitted as a single stitched PDF (all pages in a single PDF) or as individual page PDF files.
  • Stitched PDFs must:
    • Not exceed 500 MB in size (If your stitched PDF exceeds 500 MB, you should provide individual page files.)
    • Be assembled in the sequence that you would like the pages to appear in the digital edition
    • Include all pages
    • Have the pages uniquely numbered/labeled as they should appear in the publication (Pages are cross-referenced for the digital edition in case your print edition uses different page numbers.)
  • Individual page PDFs must:
    • Be labeled sequentially for automated sorting and merging, excluding cover or insert pages
    • Contain no more than one PDF file per page (Do not include multiple revisions of the same page.)
    • Include all editorial and ad pages when submitting a document for conversion
    • Include a layout file or assembly instructions for inserts, ads, or cover pages if assembly sequence in unclear

Triton Print & Digital Media cannot begin conversion until we receive all pages of the publication. Additions or replacements after we begin conversion will be subject to page replacement fees.
