This directory provides a centralized overview of software and virtual desktop environments available to students for instructional use. Please note this is not an exhaustive list - your academic department may directly provide additional specialized software for course use.
How to Use This Directory: View software offerings, supported operating systems, and access instructions.
- Available to All Students: Can be used immediately via your UC San Diego Active Directory (AD) Single Sign-On (SSO) credentials or free direct download.
- Available by Course Request only: Reserved for specific course or independent study needs upon instructor request.
1Password Manager
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Web Browser, iOS, Android
- Description: UCSD's officially supported enterprise password manager. Generates strong, unique passwords, auto-fills login credentials, and securely stores sensitive account details.

Adobe Creative Cloud
- Access Type: Creative Cloud available by Course Request only.
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS, Web Browser
- Description: Suite of applications for graphic design, video editing, web development, photography, and digital content creation. Includes Firefly, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Acrobat Pro.
- How to Obtain: Please submit a Software request form for designated course use.
Altium Student Lab
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Windows
- Description: Electronic design automation (EDA) software for printed circuit board (PCB) schematic capture and layout.
- How to Obtain: Register on the Altium Student Lab site using your student account. Note: Altium Designer Professional licenses and Altium KeySight Extensions licenses available on the UC San Diego licensing dashboard are exclusively for faculty use.
ANSYS Student
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Windows, Linux
- Description: Multiphysics engineering simulation software for product design, testing, and operation.
- How to Obtain: ANSYS provides free student software access, with capped limits on usage. Please see Get Access for more information.
ArcGIS Pro (Esri)
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Windows, Web Browser
- Description: Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping, spatial data science, and web mapping platform.
- How to Obtain: Please see the ArcPro installation steps and user guide.
Autodesk Suite (Fusion 360, AutoCAD, Revit)
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS
- Description: Professional 3D CAD, CAM, CAE, and engineering design tools. The educational licenses for students and educators include a watermark to ensure the software is used solely for personal learning, teaching, or training, and not for commercial or for-profit work.
- How to Obtain: Sign in to Autodesk.com using your student account. Note: Once your account is verified on the licensing portal, it may take up to 48 hours to access the products.
Azure for Students
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Web Browser
- Description: A Microsoft program that supports technical education by providing free credits to students for Azure cloud services and resources.
- How to Obtain: Sign in to Azure for Students using your student account.
ChemDraw + Signals Notebook
- Access Type: Available by Course Request only
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS
- Description: Chemical structure drawing, reaction modeling, 3D molecular visualization, and digital laboratory notebook suite.

GitHub Student Developer Pack
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Web Browser
- Description: Free access to Copilot, cloud credits, and dozens of developer tools
- How to Obtain: Register for student access at GitHub Education Pack.
Google Workspace for Education
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Web Browser
- Description: UCSD student email (Gmail), Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Google Meet collaboration tools.
- How to Obtain: Log in via mail.ucsd.edu or drive.google.com with your student account
JMP Statistical Software
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS
- Description: Interactive visual data discovery tool combining dynamic graphics with statistics for data science and engineering.
- How to Obtain: Please visit www.jmp.com/student and follow the instructions to register your @ucsd.edu email address for access
Kaltura / MediaSpace
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Web Browser
- Description: Video capture and streaming media repository integrated directly into Canvas courses and podcasts.
- How to Obtain: Access via mediaspace.ucsd.edu or inside Canvas course Media Galleries.
Lucidchart Pro
- Access Type: Available to All Students]
- Supported Platforms: Web Browser
- Description: Visual communication and diagramming tool (Microsoft Visio alternative) for flowcharts, process maps, concept diagrams, and UML models.
- How to Obtain: Visit the Lucidchart support page and log in with your student account.
MATLAB & Simulink
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Web Browser
- Description: Industry leading high-level language and interactive environment for numerical computation, algorithm development, and data visualization.
- How to Obtain: UC San Diego has a MATLAB Campus-Wide Licensing agreement offering all MATLAB toolboxes. Visit the UC San Diego MATLAB Portal to see the full list of products and gain access.
Microsoft 365
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS, Web Browser
- Description: Complete enterprise suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, Outlook, OneNote) installable on up to 5 PCs/Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 phones.
- How to Obtain: Log in at https://office.com and sign in using your student account to access Microsoft Office apps online. After you log in, select the "Install Apps" dropdown located on the top right side of the screen and then select Office 365 apps or Other install options to download the apps.
NI LabVIEW
- Access Type: Available by Course Request only
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux
- Description: System design, virtual instrumentation, circuit simulation, and automated test & measurement software.
- How to Obtain: Please submit a Software request form.
Qualtrics Research Suite
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Web Browser
- Description: Web-based survey design, data collection, statistical filtering, and research reporting platform for student thesis research and project data.
- How to Obtain: Visit the Qualtrics support page for access via your student account.
SAS OnDemand
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Web Browser
- Description: Cloud-hosted learning environment for advanced statistical analytics, biostatistics, data management, and predictive modeling environment.
- How to Obtain: Register and access online via SAS OnDemand for Academics. Note: full SAS available for faculty and staff use.
SolidWorks 3D CAD
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Windows
- Description: 3D parametric solid modeling, mechanical engineering simulation, and assembly design software.
- How to Obtain: Studnets, Faculty, and Staff can install SolidWorks Education on their personal devices for course-related, team projects, Capstone, and other academic use only. See this page for access.
Spartan (WaveFunction, Inc.)
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux
- Description: Computational chemistry application for molecular modeling, structure building, and quantum calculations.
- How to Obtain: Please see the Spartan installation steps here. Note: on-campus network or VPN connection required for use.
SPSS Statistics (IBM)
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux
- Description: Statistical analysis software used for non-parametric analysis, survey data, predictive analytics, and visualization.

Stata Data Analysis & Statistical Software
- Access Type: Available by Course Request only
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS
- Description: Integrated statistical software package designed for data manipulation, visualization, statistics, and econometrics.

Tableau for Students
- Access Type: Available to All Students (Free 1-Year Key)
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS
- Description: Interactive data visualization, visual analytics, and dynamic business intelligence reporting software.
- How to Obtain: Tableau provides free one-year licenses to students enrolled in UC San Diego courses. Please see installation and activation steps here.
Wolfram Mathematica
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux
- Description: Symbolic computation system, modern technical computing, calculus, and mathematical algebra environment.
- How to Obtain: Students are authorized to utilize Mathematica both on campus and on personal devices. Visit the UC San Diego Wolfram portal at www.wolfram.com. Please see this page for additional access support.
Zoom Student License
- Access Type: Available to All Students
- Supported Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Web Browser
- Description: HD virtual video conferencing, breakout rooms, and meeting scheduling.
- How to Obtain: Visit ucsd.zoom.us to download the app and assign your Student account.
