Unsure if your desktop support is managed by UC San Diego ITS?
Look up your UCPath Department affiliation:
The ITS Endpoint Management Team
The Endpoint Management team provides both desktop support and procurement services for computer hardware. Together, they combine to provide full Hardware Lifecycle Management services to their customers, which include but are not limited to:
- Recommendations for optimal hardware combinations depending on the circumstances
- Purchasing new computer hardware at competitive prices from approved vendors
- Configuration and deployment of new hardware
- Desktop support and hardware monitoring services
- Policy-mandated hardware end-of-life processing
Primary Recommendation: ITS-Managed Assets
If you are a customer of the ITS Endpoint Management team, we recommend working with us to manage new computer hardware requests for any business needs. Computer hardware purchased through the ITS process are defined as managed assets and will be monitored and managed throughout its useful lifespan.

How do I request new hardware?
Method of payment
We require a Project Number and a Task Number to process all hardware purchase requests. All requests will be fulfilled in Oracle. Requests for Apple hardware will be processed by the UCSD Bookstore. All other purchase requests will be processed by the ITS Endpoint Management team.
Both types of requests are written to the general ledger once they have been processed by procurement specialists, either via Recharge (Bookstore) or the requisition and procurement process in Oracle Procurement by the ITS Endpoint Management team.
The ITS Endpoint Management team does not currently support the procurement of hardware using chart strings containing Funding Sources.
What about third-party vendors such as Amazon, Best Buy, Apple, Microsoft, etc?
We do not recommend purchasing hardware from vendors outside the UCSD vendor ecosystem as we cannot guarantee compatibility with other ITS-recommended equipment, minimum network security standards, the software you may be required to use, or it may lack expanded warranty coverage.
If your hardware needs cannot be met by the configurations available in our catalog, we have an option on the Order Computer Equipment form (Support Portal) to submit a request for “What I want is not listed”, which will allow you to describe and submit any type of request for further review, consultation, and fulfillment as needed.
