If you have difficulty printing, check the following items for more information and possible solutions.
Remote Printer setup
You can request a remote printer be setup by sending an e-mail to servicedesk@ucsd.edu with the IP address of the printer and its physical location (building, room number). Once a remote printer has been setup, it will be designated a 'U' number (U123, U678, etc.).
If you encounter issues with the printer after it has been setup, send an email to servicedesk@ucsd.edu with the printer U number so the issue can be researched.
General printing problems
Try one or more of the following strategies:
- Make sure that your printer is turned on, has paper in the tray, and does not have a paper jam.
- On the Print screen, make sure you have selected the correct printer.
- Follow the Laser Printer Troubleshooting check list.
Formatting problems
Try one or more of the following strategies:
- If your printer prints landscape instead of portrait format, click the Properties button next to the selected printer and make sure you have chosen the format you want.
- Some reports from Link Family products are designed to be printed in landscape format. Also, some reports require that left and right margins be set at "0" to avoid truncating. Be sure to check your browser page setup and print properties for the correct settings before you print.
Problems printing from IFIS, ISIS, or PPS
Try one or more of the following strategies:
- Check your IFIS or ISIS printer ID to make sure it's correct.
- If you can't print from PPS, send the print job to a different printer. If it prints there, you need to go back and preselect your printer for the PPS job.
- Contact the ITS Service Desk, or the mainframe operator, (858) 534-4668, to see if your print job is in the queue at the mainframe. It's possible that the print queue associated with your job needs to be reset by ITS.
Contact the ITS Service Desk, (858) 246-4357, during business hours or the mainframe operator, (858) 534-4668, after business hours.
