  • Student Governments, Auxiliaries, and Services
    • Associated Students (AS)
    • Graduate & Professional Student Association (GPSA)
    • Student Promoted Access Center for Education & Service (SPACES)

What to Know About T-RES

T-RES replaced TAP for student organizations' event planning. Here are the key changes to know as you plan your event:

What is the Difference Between T-RES Reservations and T-RES Applications?

T-RES Reservations is used to book and secure physical spaces on campus, while T-RES Applications is used to submit and complete event planning modules, permits, and compliance reviews. As of August 26, 2026, T-RES Applications replaced TAP for student organizations.

T-RES Reservations

  • Reserves the date, time, and campus location for your on-campus meeting or event
  • Used for spaces available to reserve through T-RES

T-RES Applications

  • Provides information about what will happen at the event
  • Handles event planning modules, permits, and reviews

If your venue is reserved outside T-RES Reservations, you will use T-RES to start and complete the T-RES Application. T-RES training is available to help student organizations plan and manage on-campus events.

When Do I Need a T-RES Application?

Application requirements are based on the activities, components, and elements included in your event.

When you create your T-RES Reservation or start an Application for a venue reserved outside of T-RES, answer all the questions accurately. T-RES will identify the planning modules required for your event based on the selected answers.

Review the T-RES Applications page to see if your event requires an Application.

Start Early: 21-Day Deadline

Start at Least 21 Days Before Your Event

  • T-RES Applications must be started by 21 days before your event date
  • Venue reservation requests need to be submitted to the venue before the 21-day T-RES Application deadline
  • To ensure you meet the 21-day deadline, we recommend you request your venue reservation no less than 23 calendar days in advance
  • A T-RES Application must be started with a processed reservation no less than 21 calendar days prior to the event date, regardless of venue
  • If your reservation was requested through T-RES Reservations and is granted, you will receive an additional email prompting you to complete the required T-RES Application
  • If your reservation was requested outside of T-RES Reservations and requires a T-RES Application, log into T-RES Reservations and select “Start Application for reservations outside of T-RES”
  • T-RES will not allow you to start a T-RES Application less than 21 days prior to the event date

Submit on Time: 14-Day Deadline

Submit at Least 14 Days Before Your Event

  • All required modules must be completed and submitted and your overall Application must be submitted no later than 14 calendar days before your event
  • T-RES Applications allows applicants to edit and update information after the 14-day deadline, but late information is not eligible for approval
  • T-RES Applications are reviewed based on submission date, and a module may be denied if it is submitted after the deadline, even if all other requirements are met

One Principal Member or Officer Manages the Application

Before You Start

Before starting, decide which Principal Member or Officer will manage the event from start to finish in T-RES. Only the Principal Member or Officer who creates the T-RES Reservation can access and manage the Application.

That Principal Member or Officer is responsible for:

  • Creating and submitting the Application
  • Completing and updating required information
  • Responding to requests or messages in T-RES
  • Resubmitting the Application if changes are requested

Other Principal Members or Officers cannot access or manage the same Application. Choose someone who will be available throughout the planning process.

If your selected venue is not available to reserve in T-RES, a different Principal Member or Officer could make the non-T-RES reservation. Regardless, one Principal Member or Officer will manage the Application.

How to Change your T-RES Reservation or Application to Another Person

Each T-RES reservation and application can be associated with only one submitter, and the submitter must be the same individual for both the reservation and the T-RES Application.

The submitter is responsible for managing the event or meeting throughout the entire T-RES process, including:

  • Submitting the T-RES reservation request.
  • Submitting the associated T-RES Application.
  • Monitoring the status and review of all required Application Modules.
  • Responding to communications and requests from the venue and T-RES Application reviewers.
  • Ensuring all required steps, updates, and approvals are completed throughout the planning process.

Ultimately, the submitter serves as the primary point of contact and is responsible for managing the event or meeting within T-RES from submission through completion.

If the submitter needs to be changed at any point during the process, the current submitter may contact either the venue or TRES@ucsd.edu and provide the name and UC San Diego email address of the individual who will assume responsibility for the event or meeting.

For CSI student organizations, the new submitter must be a current Principal Member of the organization in order for the reservation and application to be transferred.

For other student organizations, the new submitter must be a current officer. Please work with your College or SGAS Advisor if you need assistance.

Staff Reviews Happen After You Submit Your Entire Application

Your Student Organization Advisor and other reviewers cannot view your Application while you are still working on it. They can only see the Application after you submit it.

If your Application is returned for edits, reviewers will not be able to see your changes until you resubmit the Application.

Tip: Plan ahead, submit by the deadlines, and make sure the Principal Member or Organization Lead managing the Application is available to complete and respond throughout the planning process.

Venue Reservations

Making Reservations for T-RES Venues

T-RES currently supports reservations for more than 200 campus locations, including meeting rooms, outdoor spaces, and premier venues like the Epstein Family Amphitheater, Great Hall, LionTree Arena, Mandeville Auditorium, and the Price Center Ballrooms.

Click the images on the T-RES Available Spaces webpage to explore reservable rooms, outdoor spaces, and event venues available through T-RES. Learn about each space's features, capacities, and flexible setup options to find the best fit for your event.

To request a T-RES venue, please submit your request through T-RES Reservations.

Making Reservations for Non-T-RES Venues

All events must be fully completed through T-RES Applications, including those utilizing venues reserved outside of the system.

For venue reservations made outside of T-RES Reservations, select the “Start Application for reservation outside of T-RES” option when submitting your event for an application or complying with MEP.

What Guidance Should be Followed for Off-Campus Events?

All off-campus private events hosted by student organizations must follow local and county guidelines. These events do not require a T-RES Reservation or Application.
