Follow the two-step process below to guide the selection of the appropriate gift document for a particular gift opportunity.Step #1

Gift Document Guiding Questions
- Who exactly will be contributing the gift?
- Personal Gifts (for individuals)
- Donor-Advised Fund Gifts (skip to Question #3 next)
- Choose this version when individuals intend to exclusively make recommendations to their donor-advised fund.
- Foundation Gifts
- Corporate Gifts
- How will the donor be contributing the gift?
- Outright (one-time gift made immediately)
- Pledge (an irrevocable commitment for gift(s) to be made in the future)
- Pledge agreements cannot be used if the donor intends to direct gifts via a third-party entity (such as a donor-advised fund, foundation, etc.).
- Intention (not a legal commitment)
- Choose this version when donors will make their gifts directly OR via a third-party entity (such as a donor-advised fund, foundation, etc.).
- Also applicable for revocable bequests.
- Gift In Kind (skip Questions #3 and #4)
- If the gift in kind is art, please contact our office as soon as possible for additional consultation.
- Will the gift establish a new gift fund or support an existing gift fund?

Use the form below to provide the information necessary to review and process research-related funding documentation. All charitable contributions to UC San Diego must meet the criteria outlined in the University of California Classification of Gifts and Sponsored Awards and should follow the Best Practices for Donor-Facing Fundraising Collateral, which apply to any materials prepared by the campus for donor solicitation.
Please contact Gift Policy Administration for additional consultation if the gift agreement involves any special considerations, such as:

- Scholarships, Fellowships, and Awards with Specific Criteria
