Q&As

What is the Fund Manager Summit?

In addition to the annual Research Administrator Appreciation Day, this year’s event includes an additional day to focus on sharing best practices and problem-solving to make research administration and fund management easier in support of the UC San Diego mission. Many of our university systems and tools have changed in the last few years and the summit aspect of the event will provide time to discuss how fund management work has shifted as a result and how central offices can support these functions in partnership with department staff.

Who is this event designed for?

  • Research Administrators (RAs) and Fund Managers (FMs) from across UC San Diego
  • Central office teams that support RAs and FMs
  • Department Business Officers and leadership teams
  • Others who support financial administration of research

Do I need to attend both days?

Each day will have unique content and discussion topics. The event is designed for all attendees to attend both days to get the full benefit of the tracks, sessions and experiences

What time should I plan to arrive each day?

The event hours are from 9:00am to 4:00pm (PST). Plan to arrive no later than 9:00am so you don't miss out on the fun! Registration will open at 8:00am to allow for a staggered arrival time and for attendees who would like to have a light breakfast prior to the start of the event.

Do I have to stay with my preferred track during the entire summit?

Indicating a track preference during registration helps us plan for our summit sessions and does not mean you have to stay in one track for the entire event. Summit sessions will be focused on best practice sharing and problem-solving together on track topics.

Will food be served? What if I have dietary restrictions?

Yes, meals will be served throughout the event. During registration, you can provide your meal accommodation requests.

Can RAs and FMs who work fully remote attend this event?

Yes! All RAs and FMs are highly encouraged to attend this event, regardless of whether they work remote, hybrid or in-person. Departments are allowed to pay for remote employees to travel to this event as it would be considered business travel at the university’s request.

Are Fund Managers included in RAAD Activities?

Yes! We are appreciative of everyone's work, whether it is in research administration specifically or not. Since this is a combined event, we kept the original name "Research Administrator Appreciation Day" as it is a widely known, annual event. However this year, we are spreading the appreciation and thanks to our entire fund management population.

If you are attending the event, you are invited to all appreciation activities and all registered attendees are eligible for raffle prizes. And remember, you must be present to win our raffle prizes.

Can I travel a day in advance?

Attendees that need accommodations should speak with their supervisor about arriving early to attend the event. It is strongly encouraged for supervisors to be flexible with attendees who may need to arrive a day early.
