Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP)

Read about UC San Diego's Sewer System Management Plan.

Purpose

UC San Diego developed and is implementing a Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP) to properly manage, operate, and maintain all parts of the sanitary sewer system under campus control. The SSMP will help reduce and prevent sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) and mitigate SSOs if they occur.

Sewer System Management Plan review

UC San Diego’s updated Sanitary Sewer Management Plan is now available for review and comments, with comments due by July 25, 2025.

UC San Diego is committed to maintaining a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible campus infrastructure.  As part of this commitment, the university is updating the Campus Sanitary Sewer Management Plan (SSMP), which outlines the procedures and best practices for operating and maintaining the sanitary sewer system to prevent releases into the environment and comply with State Water Resources Control Board regulations. We invite all members of the campus community—students, faculty, staff, and affiliates—to review the 2025 updated SSMP and share feedback.
