Asbestos Management Program
Learn how asbestos is controlled at UC San Diego, and find resources for implementing the program.

UC San Diego Asbestos Management Program
Federal, state, and local asbestos control regulations require close oversight of all activities related to maintenance, repair, and construction of UC-owned and -leased buildings where asbestos-containing building material (ACBM) may be present.
UC San Diego has an Asbestos Management Program in place to protect the health of the campus community.
Authorized personnel
Only personnel from the following departments are allowed to manage asbestos abatement projects at UC San Diego:
- Facilities Design & Construction
- Facilities Management
- Housing, Dining & Hospitality
- Medical Center Facilities Engineering

Training requirements
- Project managers
- UC San Diego project managers must attend Asbestos Regulatory Awareness Training for UC San Diego Project Managers training before being assigned projects where asbestos may be encountered.
- UC San Diego trades employees
- Employees who may encounter asbestos while performing their job duties must attend Asbestos Awareness Training for Trades Employees training before beginning work.
Employee right to know
Employees have a right to know about the presence of asbestos in certain materials used in the construction of UC San Diego buildings.

UC San Diego Asbestos Survey
Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) conducted a survey to identify areas at UC San Diego where ACBM is present and maintains a database of this information.
