Beginning September 18, 2026, STORE will no longer sell compressed gas cylinders. Please review the information on this page for important updates and resources regarding this transition.

Important Update

Due to campus-wide budget constraints, UC San Diego is phasing out STORE and its campus-managed fulfillment model. As STORE operations are phased out, commodities currently managed and fulfilled through STORE will transition to direct fulfillment from contracted suppliers. For many years, STORE has been proud to support the purchasing and fulfillment needs of the UC San Diego community.

 

We sincerely thank our clients for their business, partnership, and trust throughout the years. It has been our privilege to serve campus, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this transition.

Beginning September 18, 2026, STORE will no longer sell Compressed Gas Cylinders. Any Oracle requisitions submitted to STORE for gas cylinders on or after this date will not be fulfilled. Following the transition, please purchase compressed gases from Airgas or Nippon-Sanso Matheson directly using the Advanced Search catalog in Oracle Procurement.

Important Things to Know

Ordering Compressed Gases

  • Search for the Airgas and Nippon Sanso Matheson products in the Advanced Search catalog in Oracle using the manufacturers' part numbers (SKUs) or description in the dropdown below.
  • During checkout in Oracle, make sure to select the "-Direct" address assicated with the delivery location.
  • After placing your first order with each supplier, they may contact you to set up an account with them.
    • As Airgas and Nippon Sanso Matheson prepare to support customers directly, you may receive communications from either supplier regarding your account, orders, deliveries or the transition.
    • Communications from Airgas and Nippon Sanso Matheson related to this transition are legitimate. Going forward, customers should expect to interact more directly with the suppliers regarding order fulfillment and delivery.

Delivery

  • Compressed gas cylinders will now be delivered directly by the vendor so coordination with Airgas and Nippon Sanso Matheson will be critical.
    • Keep in mind delivery dates may vary and delivery drivers will need guidance on where to leave the gases.

Why is the gas cylinder program changing?

The gas cylinder program is changing to streamline operations and reduce administrative costs.

When will this change be effective?

STORE will no longer sell compressed gases beginning September 18, 2026. The last day to place an order with STORE is September 17 , 2026. 

Who will manage gas cylinders now?

Beginning August 31, 2026, compressed gas suppliers such as Airgas and Nippon-Sanso Matheson will begin delivering to campus departments and labs directly. Each supplier will be responsible for the entire gas cylinder life-cycle from purchase order to collection of empties. STORE will continue to fulfill orders through September 18, 2026.

General FAQs

How do I order compressed gas cylinders?

Following the transition, please use the Advanced Search catalog to purchase compressed gases. If the gas you need is not available on this catalog, please contact the supplier for a quote and submit a Quantity Based Form, found under Requisition Forms in Oracle Procurement.

When can I expect my gas cylinders to be delivered?

Stock gases, available on the Advanced Search catalog, are typically delivered within 1-3 business days upon requisition approval. However, in rare cases, supplier manufacturing delays may temporarily deplete inventory. These delays are usually resolved within a few business days, and orders are fulfilled in the order they were received once stock is replenished.

Specialty gas lead times are dependent on the supplier's ability to produce and deliver the product and can vary from 3-5 business days to 2-3 months. In rare cases, lead times may exceed 3 months.

How do I return a cylinder that is empty or no longer needed?

Simply mark the cylinder as "empty" or "for pickup" and leave it in your designated delivery area. The driver will collect these cylinders during your next delivery. If you do not plan on ordering replacement cylinders, please contact the appropriate supplier directly.

Will the suppliers charge a cylinder rental/demurrage fee?

No. We have partnered with our suppliers to provide bundled pricing so there is no longer any recurring monthly rental costs for gas cylinders.

Can the suppliers fill customer owned cylinders (COCs)?

No. Our gas vendors no longer fill customer owned cylinders (COCs). Requests to refill COCs can no longer be accommodated.
