Specialty Gases

STORE also provides assistance with purchasing specialty compressed gases (i.e. gases that are not kept in stock at our storehouse). The lead times for specialty gases are dependent on the gas type ordered and will be provided along with the quote, if requested. Please note that specialty gases cannot be returned for credit unless the vendor made an error. Specialty compressed gases can be requested using the Specialty Gas and Hardware Form under Requisition Forms in Oracle. Since STORE is a self-supporting recharge unit, Specialty Gas orders will incur an additional flat markup of $31.10 per cylinder in order to fund our operations.

For instructions on how to fill out this form, please follow the steps outlined in this article: How to Order Specialty Gases from STORE (KB0032868).

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I order gas cylinders from STORE?

STORE keeps a selection of commonly used compressed gases in stock for campus researchers and departments. These gases are available in Oracle's Advanced Search catalog (KB0035380). If you don't see the gas you need in our catalog, please fill out the Specialty Gas and Hardware Form instead which can be found in Oracle's Requisition Forms (KB0032868).

How long does delivery take for gas cylinders?

STORE's stock gases are typically available for next-day delivery upon requisition approval. However, in rare cases, supplier manufacturing delays may temporarily deplete our inventory. These delays are usually resolved within a few business days, and orders are fulfilled in the order they were received once stock is replenished.

Specialty gas lead times are dependent on the manufacturer's ability to produce and deliver the product to STORE and can vary from 3-5 business days to 2-3 months. In rare cases, lead times may exceed 3 months.

How are gas cylinders delivered?

Gas cylinders are delivered directly to your lab or department by our highly-trained gas cylinder distribution driver. Some buildings on campus require our team to deliver gas cylinders to a dedicated gas cylinder storage room, cage, or shed. If you're not sure where your gas cylinder was delivered to, contact your building manager for assistance first.

How do return an empty cylinder?

Simply mark the cylinder as "empty" or "for pickup" and leave it in your designated delivery area. Our driver will collect these empties during your next delivery. If you do not plan on ordering replacement cylinders, please submit a pick-up request in Services & Support (KB0032866). Cylinder pick-ups are free of charge.

Does STORE charge a cylinder rental/demurrage fee?

No. We have partnered with our vendors to provide bundled pricing so there is no longer any recurring monthly rental costs for gas cylinders.

Does STORE fill customer owned cylinders (COCs)?

No. Our gas vendors no longer fill customer owned cylinders (COCs). Requests to refill COCs can no longer be accommodated.

Does STORE sell dry ice and/or liquid gas dewars?

No. STORE only manages compressed gas cylinders and does not procure, sell, or handle dry ice or liquid gas dewars. For dry ice and dewar requests, please contact the suppliers directly (e.g. Airgas, Linde, Matheson).

Is there a markup on gas cylinders?

Yes. As a self-supporting recharge unit of Logistics, STORE applies a flat markup of $25.24 per cylinder for stock gases and $31.10 per cylinder for specialty gases. These markups are already included in the catalog prices. Rates are reviewed and approved by the Recharge Advisory Committee based on a detailed evaluation of our operating expenses and are updated every two years.
