What are my insurance options?
If you are planning to utilize the self-storage option provided by UC San Diego, please note that the university assumes no responsibility and provides no financial protection for Student’s Personal Property.
We have partnered with GradGuard to offer their College Renters Insurance to protect your belongings while in storage. For about $15 per month, the plan will include the following features:
- Theft, Water Damage and Fire Protection. For property being stored at UC San Diego’s storage facility
- Low $100 Deductible. Compared to $500, $1,000 or more for a typical homeowner’s insurance policy
- Replacement Cost. If your old property is stolen, you will be covered for the new version.
- And more!

*When purchasing a policy for storage purposes, please use the primary address of where you will be residing this summer. If you decide to keep your college renters insurance policy for the 2020 academic year, GradGuard must be notified before returning to campus that UC San Diego will now act as the primary address for coverage.
GradGuard Renters Insurance is underwritten by Markel American Insurance Company, Waukesha, WI. The advertised product is not available in AK, CT, and RI. Other program options are available for these states. Claims and coverage subject to policy, language, limits and exclusions.
Am I required to buy insurance?
No, however, all risk of loss or damage will be the Customer’s responsibility.
I already have Grad Guard Insurance, can I extend my coverage for the summer?
Yes, please indicate that you already have insurance with Grad Guard during the opt-in period. Grad Guard will extend your policy.
What crate sizes do you have available?
We currently have two (2) different sized crates available:
4'x4'x2' - Recommended for storing clothing, books, bedding materials, other smaller items and appliances.
4'x4'x4' - Recommended for storing the above mentioned, plus any mini-fridges, TVs, larger appliances, etc
If you’re unsure of how much space you’ll need, try to pack your items into cardboard boxes first and measure them. We recommend packing items into boxes to place inside the crates ahead of time, and keeping notes of what you are storing. Loose items are discouraged.
Will there be boxes, tape, and other packaging materials available to purchase?
No, Logistics will not have packaging materials available for purchase on site. Please check with The Trove or your local college market for packaging supplies. Logistics recommends the use of packing materials for the protection and security of stored items.
What items am I not allowed to store?
Caustic, explosive, or flammable chemicals; gases or liquids of any kind; perishables; foodstuffs; hazardous materials; firearms and/or ammunition; animals of any kind and/or any equipment containing such materials are strictly prohibited.
Can I share one crate with a roommate?
Our contract is designed to cover only one (1) individual and one (1) crate. Any arrangements to share a crate with another individual will be independent of Logistics.
What is the price for storage?
The total price will be dependant on the size of the crate.

Will I be able to access my items while they are in storage?

Crates will not be individually locked, but will be sealed and stored in a secured facility. Only Logistics staff will have access to the facility over the course of the Summer.
