Learn how to purchase Sustainable IT Hardware.
The University of California’s Sustainable Procurement Guidelines lay out the minimum sustainability requirements for products and services purchased by the University of California and identify those product attributes that are strongly preferred, if not mandatory. Under these Guidelines, IT Hardware and Appliances are required to meet a minimum 25% green criteria:
| Standard | Minimum Required | Preferred |
| ENERGY STAR | Required | Preferred |
| EPEAT | Bronze | Gold (or highest level) |
Use ENERGY STAR Product Finder and EPEAT Registry to verify product eligibility before purchasing.
Examples of Compliant Products
- Laptops, Desktops, Monitors – ENERGY STAR + EPEAT Gold
- Printers & Copiers – Must support duplex printing and use 100% recycled paper
- Servers & Data Center Equipment – ENERGY STAR vertified preferred
Consider ENERGY STAR or EPEAT Bronze/Gold when purchasing your next IT product.
