Compliance and Required Training

Find an overview of compliance and/or required training, along with tips for completing the training.

Faculty, Staff, and Student Employees may be required to complete various compliance and required training based on their role with the University. Based on your requirements, automated assignment emails and reminders will be sent from the UC Learning Center with information about the required course and the due date for completing the training.

UC Cyber Security Awareness Training

As part of the University's efforts to address the increasing threats to the security of information systems and data, a comprehensive security awareness training program is required for all University of California (UC) Faculty, Staff, and Student Employees. One initially completes the full Training (eCourse, ≈55 min), then subsequently completes annually the Training - Refresher (eCourse, ≈35 min). For more information please see the Campus Announcement from the Office of the Chief Information Officer Information Technology Services and the Office of the Assistant Vice Chancellor - Campus Human Resources (PDF).

To fulfill this requirement:

  • Go to https://uclearning.ucsd.edu/
  • Log in with your Single Sign-On username and password (Health Science/Health System employees,
    please select “Active Directory” from the drop down menu on the login
    page)
  • Click the To Do List/Assigned Training icon
  • Click green Start button next to UC Cyber Security Awareness Training (or UC Cyber Security Awareness Training - Refresher)

UC Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Prevention Training for Staff

Each member of the University community has a responsibility to help make our campuses safe. This training is for UC employees who are not required to complete California’s AB1825-mandated training for supervisory employees. It provides information on preventing and responding to sexual violence and sexual harassment, and what each of us can to do to make our UC culture safer for all. It takes approximately 50 minutes to complete.

UC Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Prevention Training for Supervisors and Faculty

Each member of the University community has a responsibility to help make our campuses safe. This training is for UC employees who are required to complete California’s AB1825-mandated training for supervisory employees. It provides information on preventing and responding to sexual violence and sexual harassment, and what each of us can to do to make our UC culture safer for all. As mandated by California Law AB 1825 (Gov. Code Section 12950.1), law requires two hours of sexual harassment prevention training every two years for supervisory and faculty employees, includingn those who oversee students.

You can completed the online training or register for the classroom training via the UC Learning Center

To login to the UC Learning Center:

To complete this training online:

  • Click the To Do List/Assigned Training icon
  • Click green Start button next to UC Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Prevention Training for Supervisors and Faculty

You may take the course in more than one sitting. A “bookmark” function will remember the modules you have already completed. To register for one of the Classroom Trainings:

  •  Enter the keyword “SHP” in the Search field on the Learner home page of the UC Learning Center
  • Click Register next to the classroom training you would like to attend:

      • Sexual Harassment Prevention: The Survival Guide
  • Select an upcoming date from the list of offerings, click Next. Then Submit to finalize your registration.

UC Ethical Values and Conduct/Conflict of Interest

All paid UC Employees are required to complete ethical values and conduct briefing. Those in research positions will be required to complete Compliance & Conflict of Interest for Researchers Briefing (COIR), while all other employees will be asked to complete the Compliance Briefing: UC Ethical Values and Conduct. The purpose of these briefings is to reinforce the University of California Statement of Ethical Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct and provide information about conflict of interest and reporting instances of non-compliance. Employees will automatically be assigned the appropriate training for their role with the University.

Environmental Health & Safety

All UC employees are required by California law to complete basic safety training, employees should register to attend the in-person Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) training through the UC Learning Center. The program's purpose is to help employees understand and avoid on-the-job risks. Those working in laboratories can fulfill this requirement by taking the required Laboratory Safety trainings.

To attend the Injury and Illness Prevention Program:

  • Go to https://uclearning.ucsd.edu/
  • Log in with your Single Sign-On username and password
  • Search by title or use keyword IIPP to locate this course.
  • Click the Register button next to Injury and Illness Prevention Program
  • Select the upcoming date you wish to attend and click Next.
  • Click Submit to finalize your registration.

FERPA - Confidentiality of Student Records and Privacy Rights

The university is legally and ethically obligated to protect the confidentiality of student records.To be granted access to student records, you must complete the FERPA - Confidentiality of Student Records and Privacy Rights course, which provides basic FERPA information for UC San Diego faculty and staff.

Tips for Completing Compliance and Required Training

Below are tips for completing compliance and required training:

  • The username/password used for the UC Learning Center would be your single sign-on used for other UCSD applications. If you are having trouble logging in, active Campus employees should contact the ITS Service Desk for assistance with their Single Sign-On credentials. Health Sciences and Medical Center employees and affiliates should visit http://mycourses.ucsd.edu/ for login assistance or contact 619-543-7474.

  • Please ensure that all pop-up blockers are disabled before launching online training. The use of pop-up blockers will affect your ability to launch and complete online training. If you need assistance with this, please see our Disabling Pop-up Blocker Guide (PDF).
