FAQ's

1. What is an on-campus job fair?

An on-campus job fair is an event where students can meet representatives from various university departments offering part-time employment opportunities. It’s designed to help students explore available jobs, network with department representatives, and identify the positions they should apply for.

2. Do I need to register in advance?

Yes. If you have not already registered when you arrive at the event, you will still need to first register via Handshake before you are permitted to enter. Remember, there will be four different session times - so plan your arrival accordingly.

3. What should I bring to the job fair?

Bring multiple copies of your resume, a student ID, and any other materials specified by the job fair organizers. It’s also helpful to have a list of questions ready for employers.

4. How should I dress?

Dress in business casual attire to make a professional impression. Even though it's an on-campus event, many employers value professionalism.

5. What types of jobs are available?

Jobs vary by department, but typically include administrative roles, research positions, peer tutoring, event staff, and roles in student services or campus facilities.

6. Do I need prior work experience to attend?

While some positions do require that students have a certain type of prior work experience, many on-campus jobs are tailored for students with little or no prior work experience and offer valuable training.

7. Will I have the opportunity to interview at the fair?

UC San Diego on-campus departments will not be offering on-the-spot interviews at the job fair. However, it's helpful to ask each department about their individual recruitment and hiring processes.

8. How can I prepare for the job fair?

Research the departments attending, update your resume, and practice a quick introduction to help you stand out when meeting departments.

9. What if I don’t get hired immediately?

Even if you don’t secure a job right away, the connections you make can lead to future opportunities, and attending helps you learn about upcoming openings.
