National Student Employment Week is part of a nationwide effort to acknowledge the dedication and impact of student employees. Each year, this program shines a spotlight on students who skillfully balance their academic responsibilities with part-time work, contributing significantly to the university and broader campus community. Through various events and recognition initiatives, we celebrate their hard work, foster greater awareness of their achievements, and highlight the valuable skills they gain through student employment that prepare them for future career success.Dates
National Student Employment Week occurs the second full week of April.
The 2024-2025 academic year's National Student Employment Week will be April 13th-19th, 2025. Thank you to every Triton student employee for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to UC San Diego! Your collective impact andachievements are truly inspiring, and we can't wait to see what our student employees accomplish next.
For Departments/People Leaders
During National Student Employment Week, we encourage departments to recognize and celebrate the valuable contributions of their student employees. This is the perfect time to show appreciation through personalized acknowledgments, awards, or team activities. Consider hosting an event or sharing success stories that highlight the impact of your student employees. Let’s come together to honor the dedication and hard work of our students!
Ways to Appreciate Your Triton Student Employees
Whether your student employees are working in-person or remotely, we encourage you to use your creativity to celebrate your student employees in new and exciting ways!
Remember: this is a WEEK-LONG celebration, not just one day. So try and do something different every day of the week to express your appreciation for your student employees.
- Say "Thank You!"
- How to Celebrate Your Student Employees Infographic.
- Create an appreciation video with your team/department to share with your student employees.
- Design a "National Student Employee Week" Zoom virtual background to use during meetings with your students.
- Decorate your office space; Make a banner!
- Use these certificates of appreciation, or create your own, to give to your student employees:
- Join the conversation by recognizing your students (upon their consent) on your department’s social media by using the hashtags #ucsdstudentjobz, #TritonEmployee, #NationalStudentEmploymentWeek, and #NSEW2025.
- Recognize your student employees in your department newsletter, website, or staff meeting.
- Create fun awards, such as Team Spirit Award, Master Multi-Tasker Award, Office DJ Award, and the Early Bird Award to present to your student employees.
- Create a fun "Who's Who" superlative contest, such as "Most Likely to Create the Next Viral Meme", "Most Likely to Find Buried Treasure", or "Most Likely to Win the Lottery, but then Lose the Ticket", and see who people connect with each option.
- Create an e-card and have all department employees write a short note of appreciation.
- E-giftcards, goodie bags, snacks. Get creative!
If you don’t have the monetary resources to put together any of the ideas mentioned above, please still let your students know how much you appreciate them and their hard work. You can write a thank you card/note or nominate your student employee(s) for the Triton Student Employee of the Year Award.
