What is LastPass?
LastPass is software licensed by UC San Diego to provide secure password management for UC affiliates.
LastPass enables you to only need to remember one password while providing the security of much more complex and hard to remember passwords. This is done using the LastPass browser plugin or app to generate complex passwords and securing them behind your master password and Two-factor authentication.
Why is this important?
Account breaches can happen when using weak passwords or reusing old passwords/sharing passwords across accounts. LastPass simplifies your online life by remembering your passwords for you. With LastPass to manage your logins, it's easy to have a strong, unique password for every online account and improve your online security.
Who is eligible for UCSD LastPass Enterprise?
Any UC affiliate with an @ucsd.edu email address will be eligible for a LastPass Enterprise account.
How safe is LastPass?
With Lastpass, your data is encrypted and decrypted at the device level using AES-256 bit encryption. Data stored in your vault is kept secret, even from LastPass. Your master password, and the keys used to encrypt and decrypt data, are never sent to LastPass’ servers, and are never accessible by LastPass. This is why it is not guaranteed that your account will be recoverable if your Master Password is lost.
Additionally, adding Two-Factor authentication provides an extra layer of security for your LastPass account.
