Time Warner Cable Digital Conversion

UC San Diego's Time Warner Cable Digital Conversion.

Upcoming changes

June 12, 2016, 4 a.m. - Time Warner Cable (TWC) will be upgrading its cable TV signal from analog to digital.

Impacts

  • IT Services customers using cable TV services will need televisions that have internal digital QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) tuners. Most HD or digital TVs sold after 2006 have QAM capabilities. QAM tuners allow users to connect cable directly to their TV without the use of a set-top box.
  • Time Warner Cable’s current channel lineup for ITS customers will change with added broadcast channels TWC - ITS (Excel)
  • Time Warner Cable’s current channel lineup for Health Sciences customers will change with added broadcast channels TWC - Health Sciences (Excel)
  • You will no longer need Time Warner Cable set-top boxes (DVR/converter).
    • A TWC service technician will pick up your set-top box during the week of June 13-17.
    • After return of the set-top box, monthly basic cable will be the only charge to your billing index.

Verifying QAM capabilities

Look in the owner's manual

Review your televisions owner’s manual booklet to verify QAM tuner capabilities. Find the information in the Specifications section, in the area with antennas and tuners.

If you do not have your manual, use the TV Manufacturers list (Word) to contact your manufacturer. Links to manufacturer websites with instructions to locate user manuals are provided where available. If you need to contact the manufacturer directly, have your television model number readily available.

Check your remote control

The original TV remote control will have dot (.) or dash (-) buttons indicating the TV’s internal digital QAM tuning prompts. Universal remote controls are not informative and do not have this information.

Scan for channels

Once you verify your television has QAM capabilities, scan for the new digital channels after Sunday June 12, 2016. Check your manual for your specific TV's instructions, or see Time Warner Cable's general guidance.

If you experience any issues with TWC services after June 13, contact IT Services Telecom Customer Service Analyst Annette Parker at (858) 822-4111.
