Research Leadership Framework
Why it matters?
Interdisciplinary research is critical to addressing society's most pressing challenges. With input from campus leaders, the Office of Research and Innovation formed a research leadership development framework aligned with strategies to advance UC San Diego's high-impact research portfolio. This framework outlines key knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential for leading impactful, collaborative research —particularly as scholars navigate increasingly complex, cross-disciplinary environments. Core areas include stakeholder engagement, research vision and impact, team-based scholarship, funding strategy, and post-award leadership. A series of pilot workshops and resources for investigators are currently in development—many of which are open to the broader research community, while others are offered in more targeted, team-based settings through aligned strategic initiatives that support UC San Diego's research growth priorities.
