Triton Print & Digital Media: Sustainability Matters

Triton Print & Digital Media offers several options that reduce waste and support sustainability.

Triton Print & Digital Media is committed to preserving the planet. In support of UC San Diego sustainability initiatives, we continually find new ways to reduce waste and encourage recycling.

Paper

  • Business cards are printed on FSC and Green-e certified card stock that is carbon neutral, elemental chlorine and lignin free and is made using wind power.
  • More than 87% of our paper is 30% or higher Post-consumer Waste (PCW.)
  • 82.3% of our 8.5 x 11 paper is 30% or higher postconsumer waste (PCW).
  • We use papers certified by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), and other organizations.
  • Our copier program supplies 100% PCW recycled letter-sized paper and 30% PCW recycled legal-sized paper.
  • We encourage use of 100% PCW papers when available.
  • TreeZero information (PDF)

Digital color printing

  • Dry inks in closed containers are non-toxic with a transfer efficiency rate near 100%.
  • Alcohols, chlorinated solvents, acids or flammable materials are not used or generated.
  • 80% of waste generated can be returned, reused or recycled.
  • Compared to a typical offset press, digital printing creates 80% less noise.
  • 97% of the components are recyclable or remanufacturable.
  • Storing projects for printing on demand reduces paper use.
  • Emissions such as ozone, dust, and volatile organic compounds are strictly controlled.

Printer and copier toner

  • If caps are missing, tape the opening of empty bottles shut.
  • Empty Minolta toner bottles with a ‘chasing arrows’ logo and the number 2 on the bottom belong in blue single-stream recycling bins.
  • To recycle empty Xerox toner bottles or cartridges, call the Imprints help desk at (858) 534-2377 with your 4-digit machine number. Based on your machine model, an Imprints representative will let you know how to recycle the empty toner bottle or cartridge correctly.
  • To recycle full Xerox toner waste containers for all models, close the container securely and tape the opening shut before placing bottle in blue single-stream recycling bins.
  • Recycle empty HP toner cartridges through STORE.

Print on demand

  • Keep waste out of landfills by printing only as many copies as you need, when you need them.
  • Print only the sections, pages or chapters you need, instead of printing a whole book.
  • Lower overall costs eliminates the need to print larger quantities to get the per unit price down.
  • Change, correct or update text for future printings without making unsold inventory obsolete.

Paperless ordering and print management

  • We use paperless ordering, invoicing and job management applications.
  • 95% of our orders are received electronically. Our goal is to reach 100% by 2020.
  • PrintConnection online portal allows paperless ordering from your home or office 24/7, eliminating unnecessary trips.
  • We use electronic online (paperless) applications for job tracking, job management, shipping, reporting and invoicing.
