Describe the impact that student employment has had on your overall college experience.

Working at the Writing Hub has been a phenomenal experience! I've met some of my closest friends through this position and I feel a strong sense of community amongst both student and professional staff. I've been able to build up my confidence as an educator and actively practice the theoretical skills that I've developed through my course material, and the Writing Hub has definitely made my college experience more fulfilling overall.

What skills and/or competencies have you developed in your student employment job that you were able to capture on your resume?

Some of the many skills I have been able to develop through my job are public speaking, data analysis, tutoring, teaching, research, and navigating a workplace environment.

What tips or advice do you have to share with other students on how to get the most out of their student employment experience?

Lean into the community! You end up spending a lot of time with the same people, so it is much more rewarding when you can make connections with the people around you. Showing up to retreats, socials, and office hours definitely helped me feel more integrated in the workplace, and I ended up with a great network of people who were always happy to celebrate my successes with me!

How might you apply your student employment experience and the skills gained during your time at UC San Diego to your professional career?

I'll definitely be able to use the education and research related skills that I developed through my student employment opportunities as I pursue higher education. Through these positions, I realized that I want to study learning and memory as they relate to education, and my positions have undoubtedly given me key hard and soft skills to excel in my future endeavors.
