Describe the impact that student employment has had on your overall college experience.
Student employment has been absolutely essential! I wouldn't be where I am today without it. It's opened up so many opportunities and given me the chance to develop my career through the work I do and the people I meet.
What skills and/or competencies have you developed in your student employment job that you were able to capture on your resume?
Through my student employment, I’ve developed software engineering skills across a variety of programming languages, frameworks, and libraries. I’ve also gained experience conducting independent research and have built broad knowledge in the field of bioinformatics.
What tips or advice do you have to share with other students on how to get the most out of their student employment experience?
Find something you enjoy and really commit to it!
How might you apply your student employment experience and the skills gained during your time at UC San Diego to your professional career?
The interpersonal and technical skills will definitely carry over to any computational biology-related field I go in. Writing code, knowing the biology, working with others in a team environment, and understanding the task at hand in both a nuanced and broad scale will be important for whatever I end up doing for my career.
