Join us in welcoming newly admitted students

  • Saturday, April 4: Triton Day for admitted first-year students
  • Saturday, May 9: Transfer Triton Day for admitted transfer students

Triton Days offer an opportunity to showcase UC San Diego, one of the nation’s top ten universities driving innovation and change to advance society, propel economic growth and make our world a better place. For many of the estimated 25,000 newly admitted students and their families who will be visiting, Triton Day or Transfer Triton Day will be their first opportunity to experience UC San Diego - our sprawling grounds and ocean views, dynamic campus community and expansive research, and collaborative opportunities.

We need the campus community’s partnership to ensure that our guests are welcomed, informed and engaged. Join us by staffing a booth, leading a session, conducting a mock lecture, offering an open house, or being a volunteer ambassador.

Volunteers Needed

Hundreds of volunteers will be needed to make Triton Day and Transfer Triton Day successful. Look for future notices about Triton Day volunteer opportunities, or visit the Volunteer 50 website to learn how you can participate.

This year, we are asking you to register for Triton Day and Transfer Triton Day separately to ensure we have an accurate list of participants on each day.

Academic Mock Lecture

An Academic Mock Lecture is an opportunity for students and guests to experience a UC San Diego faculty led lecture. Academic Mock Lectures will provide students and their guests an opportunity to preview the classroom experience, their academic area, and what it is like to be a student at UC San Diego. Academic Mock Lectures will be 30 minutes on Triton Day and Transfer Triton Day. Academic Mock Lecture times will be assigned between 9:00am-3:30pm on Triton Day and from 9:00am-2:30pm on Transfer Triton Day.

Sessions

Academic and Student Support Service Sessions provide information and allow for Q&A. Sessions are 30 minutes on Triton Day and 45 minutes on Transfer Triton Day. Academic Sessions focus on specific academic programs and are led by instructors and academic advising staff, whereas Student Support Service Sessions focus on programs and services that support student life and are led by program or department staff. Academic and Student Support Service Session times will be assigned between 9:00am-3:30pm on Triton Day and from 9:00am-2:30pm on Transfer Triton Day.

Booth

An Academic or Student Support Unit Booth provides an opportunity for your unit to interact with students and guests at the Academic and Support Services Fair. Units are encouraged to provide handouts and materials that help describe the department, major or program, to give insight into what the student may experience. The Academic and Support Services Fair is from 10:00am-2:30pm on Triton Day, and from 10:30am - 2:00pm on Transfer Triton Day.

Open House

An Open House provides an opportunity to showcase your academic/research/support service spaces to visitors. An Open House allows guests to come and go as they please during a specific time frame your unit selects. Due to capacity limitations, we are no longer allowing units to conduct lab tours. In lieu of lab tours, please consider registering for an Open House. We recommend you host your Open House between 10:00am and 3:00pm on Triton Day and between 10:00am – 2:30pm on Transfer Triton Day. Staff and or faculty must be present to greet guests and answer questions during the Open House hours indicated. Admissions will advertise the Open House, but your unit is responsible for setup, staffing, activities, etc.

Student Organization

Information Table at the Student Organization Fair – Registered Student Organizations and Sports Clubs
An Information Table at the Student Organization Fair provides an opportunity for Registered Student Organizations and Sports Clubs to pass out flyers, ask prospective students to sign-up for email lists, and talk with prospective students about their organization and being a student at UC San Diego.

Please note that all Registered Student Organizations and Sports Clubs that receive a spot to table will be provided with 1 small round 36 inch cocktail table and a sign to hang at their table. This is an information tabling event only! No activities may occur and no food may be sold or handed out at your table. Complimentary snacks will be available at the event for the prospective students and their families.

The Student Organization Fair is from 12:00pm – 2:30pm on Triton Day and 11:00am – 1:00pm on Transfer Triton Day.
