Borrow an EH&S radiation survey meter while yours is being calibrated, repaired, or shipped.
Meter Loan Program
Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) will lend departments a radiation survey meter while:
- EH&S Services Lab calibrates your meter
- Your meter is out for repairs
- You wait for delivery of a new meter
The loaner instrument is a Ludlum model 3 meter, available with these probes:
- 44-3 scintillation probe for low-energy gamma detection
- 44-9 Geiger-Mueller probe for alpha, beta, or gamma contamination
Costs
Loaner meters are free, but are subject to overdue charges:
- An overdue charge of $60 per month will apply beginning 1 month after you have been notified that your regular meter is available for pickup.
- Overdue charges will not apply if you have ordered a new meter that takes longer than 1 month to arrive.
How to borrow a meter
- Call the EH&S Services Lab, (858) 534-6418, to be sure a meter is available. Meters are loaned on a first-come,
first-served basis. - Pick up the meter at the EH&S Services Lab:

- Bring the following information with you:
- Principal investigator's name
- RUA number
- Account number for your regular meter
