Survey Meters: Meter Loan Program

Borrow an EH&S radiation survey meter while yours is being calibrated, repaired, or shipped.

Meter Loan Program

Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) will lend UCSD departments a radiation survey meter while:

  • EH&S Services Lab calibrates your meter
  • Your meter is out for repairs
  • You wait for delivery of a new meter

The loaner instrument is a Ludlum model 3 meter, available with these probes:

  • 44-3 scintillation probe for low-energy gamma detection
  • 44-9 Geiger-Mueller probe for alpha, beta, or gamma contamination

Loaner meters are free, but are subject to overdue charges:

  • An overdue charge of $60 per month will apply beginning 1 month after you have been notified that your regular meter is available for pickup.
  • Overdue charges will not apply if you have ordered a new meter that takes longer than 1 month to arrive.
