Temporary Employment Opportunities

Find out about UC San Diego's Temporary Employment Service (TES) and how to become a member of the temporary employment pool.

UC San Diego is continuing to adapt to changes in operations during these extraordinary times of global pandemic. Effective March 30, 2020, all campus staff hiring is paused, including TES staffing. If there is a staff/TES hire that a unit leader believes to be absolutely essential to the core function of their unit, a request for an exception to the staff hiring pause require EVC/VC and CFO approval. However, in the Triton spirit of innovation and collaboration, we are pleased to announce the launch of the UC San Diego Temporary Work Opportunity Clearinghouse (T-WOC), a collaboration designed to bring together operations that need additional staffing with current UC San Diego career staff who have skills and talent to offer their colleagues. TES places employees who have clerical, administrative, service, technical, and other specialized skills in departments that have temporary staffing needs.

Assignment locations include:

  • UC San Diego campus
  • UC San Diego Medical Center located in Hillcrest
  • Scripps Institution of Oceanography
  • Thornton and Veteran's Administration Hospitals
  • UC San Diego satellite locations

How do I apply?

  1. Review the temporary employment pool vacancies.
  2. Follow the application procedures for staff employment at UCSD and check the Temporary Employment interest box on the resume supplement form.

What is the hiring process?

  1. Applications are screened on an ongoing basis by TES' placement coordinators.
  2. References are checked on previous and current employment and on all UC San Diego positions held by each applicant.
  3. If positive references are obtained, applicants are invited for a formal interview and skill testing. Data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, and typing skills are assessed after the interview.
  4. Individuals who are selected for employment must attend a new-hire orientation for temporary employees, after which they become active members of the temporary pool.
