Land Acknowledgement

Mat-koo-la-hoo-ee (La Jolla, California) is home to the Kumeyaay people and carries the Indigenous wisdom that reflects their ancestors and descendants. This knowledge of the land, communally held amongst the Kumeyaay, established a relationship of stewardship and care that fostered a balance for the land, the water, and its diverse ecosystem. Today, as members of the UC San Diego community, we walk on this land alongside the Kumeyaay people and acknowledge their wisdom and practices of stewardship as an act of reverence to this land and our shared communities.
