Hours of Operation
The Media Teaching Lab editing rooms and production studios are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, during the academic quarter. ID card swipe is required for access to the Media Center/Communication Bldg (MCC) front door between 7PM and 7AM on weeknights and all day on weekends.
General Policy
The Media Teaching Lab has been commissioned by Academic Affairs for undergraduate and graduate instructional use.
It is against University policy, and is forbidden, to use Media Teaching Lab-managed equipment and facilities for any commercial purpose, including any activity where the photographer or other user of the equipment is paid for their work.
You are legally and financially responsible for loss, damage due to negligence, or theft of equipment that may occur while using the Media Teaching Lab facilities.

Checkout Restrictions
You must be registered with the Media Teaching Lab in order to access any of the facilities. To register, students must complete the online form linked from “First Time Registration” on medialab.ucsd.edu.
Note: Online registration is not instant. Please allow up to 2 business days for the process to complete. If you need equipment sooner, you can visit MCC 111 in person during operating hours.
What facilities you have access to and at what time may be restricted by your course enrollment.
Reserving an Editing Room or Production Studio
Reservations are made on a first-come-first-served basis. Log onto our web checkout patron portal to make a reservation, or visit MCC 111 in person during operating hours.
Editing Rooms:
Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in media production classes may reserve rooms up to one week in advance. Editing room reservations are limited to 4 hours a day and 16 hours a week per student. Non-media students may use the editing rooms on a first come, first served basis, as long as they are registered with the Media Teaching Lab. This will allow you to swipe into the editing rooms with your student ID.
Production Studios:
Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in media production classes may reserve rooms up to one week in advance. Production studio reservations are limited to 24 hours per reservation. Non-media students may use the production studios on a first come, first served basis, as long as they are registered with the Media Teaching Lab. If needed, non-media students can make a reservation with the Media Teaching Lab staff by emailing medialab@ucsd.edu, or by visiting MCC room 225. Student group events, parties and meetings are not appropraite uses of the studios and will not be approved.
Special access key cards must be checked out from, and returned to, the Equipment Checkout Room in Media Center/Communication Bldg (MCC), room 111. Checkout room hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8AM-12PM and 1-5PM. If you have a reserved a studio outside of those hours, please make sure to check out an access card PRIOR to your reservation.
Reservation Rules
Users are responsible for any loss, damage due to negligence, or theft of equipment that may occur while using the facilities. Please make sure the door is shut when you leave. Do not turn an editing room over to anyone without making them use their ID card to access the space. Do not leave any supplies, equipment, or personal belongings unattended. The Media Teaching Lab is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
