Training & Certification
Federal regulations (49 CFR 172.700) require hazardous shipping training only for personnel who package and ship biological substances or dry ice on their own. If you utilize Outbound Shipping services, department staff manage compliance on your behalf.
Do You Need This Training?
Shipping hazardous materials without proper certification may violate federal law and result in substantial penalties.
Training is only required if you are packaging and shipping biological substances or dry ice on your own. If you submit your items through the Outbound Shipping department, our certified team handles the process for you and no training is required.
UC Learning Course
Training and certification is required only for individuals conducting self-directed shipments of Biological Substances and Dry Ice. The training is available on UC Learning.
Course Name: Shipping Biological Substance and Dry Ice
Certification Period: Certification remains valid for 2 years after successful completion of the course and exam.

- Completed the self-paced course.
- Pass the certification exam.
Roadway Transportation Exception
