Labor Relations

The primary objective of this division of Human Resources is to act as consultant and advocate to campus administration in the area of labor relations in support of the proper exercise of collective bargaining processes and overall procedures for formal conflict resolution.

Labor Relations' services include:

• Communication with labor unions that represent UC San Diego employees about matters related to employee terms and conditions of employment
• Communication with supervisors about the university's collective bargaining negotiations with unions regarding employees who are in a bargaining unit represented by a union
• Participation in the negotiation of the university's collective bargaining agreements
• Providing training for supervisors involved with collective bargaining agreements and applicable laws
• Union contract interpretation
• Consultation with supervisors regarding employee discipline or termination and representation for supervisors at meetings about these actions
• Representation for supervisors in labor relations meetings, grievance investigations, and unfair labor practice hearings
