The topic of eldest daughters has captured the culture’s attention. This workshop focuses specifically on “first daughters.” They’re the first to learn how to speak English fluently. This workshop is comprised of four first daughters who will share and invite others to talk about how their first-daughtness has shaped not only their worldview, but their outlook on higher education.

May 23 | Stories of Survival: Discussion on Asian American College Students Mental Health
APIMEDA Programs and Services welcomes Dr. Amy Wong to speak about Asian American college students who have experienced suicide ideation from a strengths-based perspective. While racism and trauma contribute to the exacerbation of existing mental health challenges, Dr. Wong also found that individuals were determined to manage their suicidal feelings, tendencies, and behaviors on a daily basis. She conducted narrative research to honor the tradition of storytelling and recognizing that each person has an important journey that is worth sharing.
