Read about the Conflict of Interest (COI) Office, which ensures that UCSD complies with state and federal law pertaining to conflict of interest.
The COI Office:
- Helps employees assess situations under which their outside financial interests or other personal considerations may compromise or appear to compromise their actions or judgments in the administration, management, or performance of their professional activities at UCSD
- Ensures that the best interests of the public and university are served by reviewing disclosures of related financial interest between principal investigators (PIs) and non-governmental entities
- Oversees the filing of statements of economic interest forms by Designated Officials (DOs) every year and when they assume and/or leave office
- Provides expertise in policy and regulation interpretation to faculty, managers, and other staff

Conducts collaborative reviews, by department request, of other issues involving faculty relations with industry outside the normal contract, grant, or gift process, as well as employee relations with private industry
IRC
The COI office also provides staff support to the Independent Review Committee (IRC) on Conflict of Interest.
