This building was formally named in honor of the second director of Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Thomas Wayland Vaughan, in 2001. Vaughan Hall includes offices and laboratories that span a range of disciplines, including global climate change research, and is home to the Scripps Marine Vertebrate Collection, Pelagic Invertebrate Collection, and Benthic Invertebrate Collection. These collections include millions of preserved deep-sea, midwater, pelagic, and shore specimens from all over the world.
