About Scholander Hall
This three story building at Scripps Institution of Oceanography is the primary home of the Center for Marine Biotechnology and Biomedicine, which focuses on developing products and technologies from marine resources. The building was occupied in 1965 and has 10,376 square feet of assignable area. In 1988 the facility was renamed to honor Per F. Scholander, renowned marine physiologist and former UC San Diego professor. Scholander pioneered the technique of analyzing gas bubbles trapped in glaciers to determine the composition of ancient atmospheres. Today, Scholander’s method is crucial to the study of climate change.
