The UC San Diego Cancer Center was named for Rebecca and John Moores, whose generous gift enabled the construction of the facility, occupied in February of 2005. The center has an assignable area of 157, 276 square feet and provides a central location for the work of over 600 physicians, scientists and staff. Located in east campus, the center includes a three-story building for clinical service and administrative functions, including outpatient services, prevention programs and community outreach activities. In addition the center has a five-story research tower. The Moores UCSD Cancer Center is one of only 39 cancer centers in the U.S. The building design features stainless-steel tiles that change colors as the day progresses.
